could anyone tell me if the back glass gasket from a 1973 f150 would fit my 66. If it does it would stand to reason so to would the trim.. correct? of course cutting the glass.
thx
Yes, agreed but is the profile of the gasket the same? I've done some horse trading with a very experienced glazier next door and if the profile matches he feels it can be done easily.
Long and short is I would like a chrome surround on the back glass and a slider is out of the ?
Suggest price out cost of refab. to purchasing: Rear windows surface on Ebay on occasion; currently there is a rear window, seller wants $45 + $18 shipping. A new gasket runs around $40, seems kinda pricey but speaking from experience, leaking windshield, and rear window seals can be a major pain in the backside.
If the rear window on either of my 65's need to be replace, I may consider sliding? Topic came up few years ago, member's posted pic's and the question alum/chrome trim vs. the rubber, comparing member's pic's seem to recall majority were in favor of the rubber.
After 50 plus years of ownership, this ole timer has become lazy when it comes to making repairs, or reconditioning these vintage trucks. IMO, although may consider $100 pricey I look at it terms of how labor intensive the project may present; gasket and used window approx. 2 hours and I am done?
Anyhow, had an urge to chime in; food for thought???
Came across same/similar ebay item, seems reasonably price; however, do not see myself using sliding glass window that much; if anything, thought about installing a rear window guard considering the number of times I have tossed material into the bed and had it bounce off the back window. Primary issue one may want to consider is whether there would be any 'back flow exhaust fumes', it was an issue w/ my 65 until I had shop route the pipes out the back?
Anyhow, possibly an option if owner had to replace; imagine new rear window and gasket possible close to what a slighting rear, and gasket would cost?? Food for thought??
I had a similar slider rear window in a '94 Ranger and I loved it. I never had any issues with exhaust fumes - but also consider that I always maintained a leak-free exhaust system and ran it all the way to the back. However, if I had straw chaff, sawdust, or just plain dry dirt "crumbs" in the box, they would be swooped up and come inside the window when it was open and the truck was moving faster than 30 mph.
Since I liked it so much in the Ranger, I have considered buying one (I like the looks of the CRL unit) for my Slick....however, I have been hesitate on purchasing one because I am concerned on the extra framing at the top center - which may block my rearview mirror line-of-sight out the back window. I realize I could likely change the angle by changing/lowering my seat position, but I'm not sure I want to go to all that for a slider.....
I've had the CRL slider in my 65 for around 25 years. Use the standard rubber seal that ND posted. Never had a leak or any problems for that matter.
Works great for moving air through the cab. Open a door window and rear window or just open the floor vent and back window.
Need I say, make sure your floor is clean when ya open that floor vent.
