Spitting and Sputtering

2000 with the 5.4 liter
263,000 miles

My old girl tends to spit and sputter especially when taking off from a stoplight. I put my foot in her and get the rpm's around 3000 and she starts acting right. Is it something more than say the obvious spark plugs or fuel additive??

No CEL or codes? That'd help find a place to start instead of guessing left and right

Off the bat, perhaps a clogged fuel filter or the sock in the tank. Does it act differently depending on fuel level?

I would read the computer anyway. Even if no CEL is on, there might be a pending code or misfire data that can help you troubleshoot
