went and picked up this fine farmitized piece of american inginuity today. You know you can make a lowball offer on a truck when they have attached a towhook to one of the frame rails for easier pull starting. Starter appears to be trashed, barely rolls over with two fresh batteries installed. Glowplug system is rather well on the fritz. Guy was starting it with either in the winter.
The good is it runs like a champ, doesent smoke, has a new clutch/slave cylinder, doesnt have oil coming out of it everywhere. and it doesent look crashed in any significant way.
93 209,000 miles 2wd stick 4.10 gears
500 bucks + 150 in gas to go get it.
If it passes a thourough inspection and proves to be a viable engine more or less as is. its getting a 1975 supercab dropped on it.
Update: pulled the glow worms after work to see what things look like. First off they are autolights. However they all came out without fuss and none of them were swelled or had blown tips. Not bad for an engine that was getting started with either. Next step will be a compression test. Not buying a starter till i know the motor is good, so will have to do the ol' pull commpression test.
The glowplug with the little bit of "stuff" on the tip was the only oddball out of the 8. All the others look like the other one.
I am also wondering if this is a factory engine or not. I am guessing that it is. All i know is i like it being punched for the 185 HP setting.
Also if you ever see these fittings on a truck and they want more than 500 dont buy it!!!!!! they are used up here in the oil fields to warm up the engines on the rigs with the crew hauler trucks when they get there in the morning. Does a warm engine good to get hit with -30 below antifreez. Makes em tougher!!!!!
