I recently noticed that the vacuum hose for the modulator coming off of the "T" on my intake looked like it was swollen and "sweating"...didn't look normal.

I proceeded to remove the hose from the "T" and was greeted with red transmission fluid...yay.

I figured the diaphragm was shot, confirmed it with a vac pump..so I went and bought a new NAPA unit, part #1-4657, black stripe and replaced both sections of soft vacuum line.

Before pitching the old one in the trash, I thought I'd verify the cause of the failure. Here's the pics....

 

Nothing like a little surgery to get to the root of the problem.

 

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If it is broke, take it apart and find out why.

 

Cool! I've seen sectional diagrams of the modulator but never seen one actually dissected.

 

Makes a guy wonder where all those missing teeny-weeny little fragments of rubber found themselves, don't it?
