I know plenty of people on other forums who have used them successfully, and I don't know of anybody who has had a blowout. I seem to remember one person getting one that wouldn't balance, and Tread Wright replaced it with no questions.
Under federal law retreads are allowed on the rear tires of rigs, but not the front as too guarantee blowout. The chance of blowouts on todays retreads are low, I've been using them on a dodge 2500 and jeep jk for the past 15 years. I had 1 blow out, my fault I took a chunk out the side of it while 4 wheeling.
Buses are the only vehicles that DOT says no to retreads on the front. Everything else they don't say boo about.
The only way I would consider a retread is if it was my casing so I know the history. I used to run retreads on my trailers and the times I had one blow out was when I run out of casings and just got one from the retread shop. I gave up on retreads years ago after a couple of blowouts that caused more damage than I would've saved if the tire would have lasted to the end.
I have a set of Tread Wright Wardens I run for winter use and they have been great so far. I did have an issue with one tire that had a bulge on the sidewall when I fist got them and they shipped me a new tire right away. They have been fine since. These are remolds not retreads, from my understanding its a different process
But yes, it does make sense; it's heat that puts them together and especially here in NC that we've been hitting a heat index of 110ish with humidity.
Had some 2 of them lasted 7 months the belts started to bulge on them took them off 1 exploded while it was in the bed of the truck .They look great but belts gave way.
