Led Headlights

1992 FORD Bronco- I am curious of anyone in a 1992-1996 xlt etc has swapped over to led headlights and what brand you used. I see a few brands on the market but don't want to spend big $$ and see future problems. Thanks TR

I'm looking for opinions also. But the big question that I have is this. Having installed HID lights into my '91 F150 and finding that the light dispersion is very bad for on coming drivers, do the stock 92-96 headlights distribute the light from LED bulbs as bad as the HID bulbs in the 87-91 headlights?

Keep in mind, the stock headlight reflectors were meant to reflect and disperse light from a specific bulb in a particular pattern. The geometry of the reflector takes this in account. They didn't just make something that looked good, they actually made sure the units would meet regulations while giving forth as much light as possible.

If the LED element does not have the same geometry as the appropriate bulb, then light distribution is a cr@pshoot. It may be good, it might be bad and it could end up being nothing but glare for the oncoming driver.

Just my $0.02 USD worth. YMMV.

RAY/Bruner, I actually changed my headlight assemblies out .Both were getting dull and I have used a headlight restore kit on them once. It was an easy swap and they look great. I used the Philips 9007XVB2 bulbs . I also ordered the harness kit from bronco graveyard. This harness uses the battery with relays for high and low beam. It reduces the amperage on the headlight switch. Good luck TR

Can't argue with those choices. You have improved your lighting way beyond the factory lighting by using that harness.

I forgot to mention, I also added another relay for my piaa lights to come on when my high beams are on. Being rural and in deer country ,its a nice addition. TR

I also put in the JBG headlight harness and the Alfas Maximum Intensity 9007 bulbs. The bulb life is very short but I do like the light that they produce. I lost one bulb this last week and they are just a little over 6 months old. But they are no match for the amount of light that the HIDs put out in my '91. So I'm looking for the amount of light and color that the HIDs had but without everything else that goes with them.
So for less than $3 I'm willing to give these a try.

They are a little more powerful than the Alfas bulbs but the price is right.

Bruner , prior to adding my harness and relay for my piaa lights, I also added another high/low beam mod back in 2005.The low beams stay on when u activate the high beams.(by law the low beams go out when high beams is activated) I used that for 16 years. I left for work at 5 am and needed all the light I could get for a 50 mile commute. Recently doing the mods with my jbg harness ,that prior mod still works .I didn't want trouble from hid and led that I researched. I did see where a few people actually changed there housing to accommodate for the led/ hid lighting Older I get more light I need .Good luck TR

Ah yes! I forgot about the low beam on mod!! I have a alarm system toggle switch left over that I could use with the relay harness. That way I could select if the low beams stay on with the high beams.

The lamp assembly optics are designed for a halogen filament bulb. An HID or LED bulb will not be focused correctly producing excessive glare. These retrofits are also not legal. I run a set of relays and good cleat non blue bulbs.

Look into morimoto 2 stroke led bulbs or a bi-xenon projector setup from them.

if you want to run an LED or HID bulb, then I would recommend a projector retrofit from The Retrofit Source. There are some other aftermarket options, but you will not retain oem look with them.
