Servicing Front Axle
Hi folks, newbie here with a question about front axle service on a '96 Aerostar 4x4 van. I'm trying to help out a neighbor who can't find where to check the level, or add lube to the differential and the two hubs. He doesn't have a repair manual, and his owners manual says the lube has to be changed at both these places. Thanks for any help, Tim

Servicing Front Axle
There is a Hex plug on the right (passenger) side of the diff, above the front driveshaft. It takes a 3/8 inch allen wrench to remove it. Once it has been removed, stick your finger in it, the fluid level should be at the bottom of the hole. The front diff takes Automatic Tranny Fluid, NOT 80/90.
The front end uses CV joints, so the only place to check or add fluid is the differential.
