95 Explorer XLT-What gear lube to use?

I need to change the front and rear axle gear lube in my Explorer. It's 4WD. I want to use a synthetic oil and I was looking at the Amsoil site. They get pretty precise on what gear oil goes in front and the rear to meet Ford gear oil spec's. The front axle is a Dana 35 and in the manual it calls for Ford spec:WSL-M2C191-A oil and in the rear it calls for 80W90-QL or WSP-M2C197-A gear lube. I would assume that the rear is calling for 80W90 gear oil. According to Amsoil you don't need the fortifier for the rear axle but I think it would be wise to add it anyway. Have any of you used Amsoil to fill the front and year axle's and if you did what Amsoil gear lube did you use? There are 6-7 types of gear lube that they sale. I just don't want to make a mistake. If you didn't use Amsoil is there another synthetic gear oil that you did use? Thanks for the info! John

If you are set on going synthetic, I would go with Mobil 1, or just about any other synthetic oil you can find at your local parts shack. They will all perform just fine, and availability is not an issue.

Even Walmart makes a syn gear oil for ~$8.50 a qt, that will get the job done just fine.

FWIW, I feel that syn gear oils are not cost effective, but that's another thread, another day.

I recently filled the diffferential on my 1990 E350 motorhome with Redline 75w90 gear oil. Cost $8 per quart (may be a buck less at myoilshop.com).
