I'm having a problem with my 1988 f250 351 that when I start it, she runs very rough and won't idle for more than 10 seconds without holding my foot on the pedal. Sometimes it will rev itself up to 1750 rpms (always 1750 exactly) and just hold itself there until I shut it off. Other times it will fluctuate between low idle and 1750 revs. It seems completely random too. There was one time when I started it up and it ran perfectly for about 10 minutes, and I mean it ran and idled beautifully- like a brand new truck! I drove it around for about 10 minutes and it had great power and never missed a beat, then it shut itself off as if I had shut off the key, no stumbling or sputtering- just dead. After this I tried to start it and it wouldn't pop off at all- come to find out its not getting spark. Since then it has started and run crappy but it hasn't run good since. I replaced the IAC and did plugs which helped a lot. It has a code for the TPS and EGR valve so I'm going to swap the TPS and block off the EGR and see where that gets me. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great
That's what I'm thinking will fix it, but the fact that it randomly decided to run perfectly the one day kinda threw me off. Blocking off the EGR valve shouldn't hurt anything on this truck right? I did it on my 1977 LTD and it didn't cause any issues.
