Still learning, and still at the bottom of the curve. So . . ..
For the axle code on the door jamb the plate shows "24?". In other words, a worker kindly put a rivet into the last number. But whatever it is, what does the "Capacity" column refer to?
I have the axle code page from Ford's MPC for '73-'79 but "capacity" is not defined; the assumption being that it was compiled with everyone but me in mind. :-)
Last digit in your axle code is "J", that means your truck has power steering.
The "24" is for a 4.10 ratio non-locking Dana 60.
The "capacity" column shows 5.3M. That's the capacity that the axle can carry, in this case 5,300 lbs, in Roman numerals "M" is 1000's. I don't know why Ford lists it like that, but that's the way they do it.
I can see the j. Nowhere do I see a 5.3m that he stated.
That's in the parts catalog in the "24" code line. The OP said he had the page from the parts catalog and could decode the 24 but was stumped by what the column that had "capacity" meant. In that column under code 24 the capacity is listed as "5.3M". That's the capacity of the axle, not the GVW of the truck.
