Engine launched oil dipstick

Ok, lately this engine has been giving me issues. People suggested that it could be blowby. I replaced the valve cover gasket which was causing some of the smoke. Today the first test run. It did great in the parking lot. Got on the road and really put the engine on a load.it sounded good, I was feeling proud that I might have finally fixed it. A quarter mile down and I hear a small bang. Pulled over and it was the dipstick. I still had great oil pressure and sufficient amount of oil. On the way back. I can hear hissing like air was leaking. I haven't been able to determine the source. I haven't had the time to put the old air filter on with the oil cap connected to it. Maybe it was my on eagerness that got me. Inline 6 300

Sounds like lots of blow by or a stuck pcv valve.

Last I checked the pcv valve was still good. Probably the blow by. Is it a leak down test I need to do?

I'd start with a compression test. If low add a cup of oil per cylinder and see if it rises.

Don't put a CUP of oil in each cylinder..........You will hydro lock the motor.........maybe a couple of teaspoons full at the most.

Ok so say it's the ring(s) which I think it is. The bad rings also causes the hissing or could that be a whole new problem?
