Fan switch shouldn't be able to blow a good fuse as it is only switching the ground circuit. Even if it shorts to ground the only thing that would happen is the fan would go to full speed. I'm guessing it was a tired fuse.

30A seems like a large fuse to just go 'poof'
I know these blower motors draw a lot of current and even more when the bushings start to wear.
