What Engine is it???
I´m in need of yout help. A friend of mine bought an engine and the seller said it would be a 460 cui motor of a 1971 Lincoln.
Well, the engine needs some care and in order to buy the right stuff, we need to know what engine it is.
I took some pictures of all numbers I could find and hopefully somebody here can bring light into the darkness.
Thanks in advance and greetings from the old world (Germany)

Ronny
Though i can't see it, im going to assume this engine has a spread bore (Quadrajet style) carburetor.
It is from 1973 through 1978.
Blocks marked D9TE (behind the starter) would be external balance.
Check the numbers stamped on the crankshaft to confirm that it is 460 (3U) rather that the shorter stroke 429 (2U)
Hope this helps.
Btw., my friend owns a 1966 Ford Galaxy without power breaks. He was looking for an upgrade kit and found something with 7 and 8 inches. I guess that describes the diameter. What would you suggest to implant in this old Ford Convertible?
Thank you in advance.
Ronny
There should be numbers stamped in the third counterweight from the front of the crankshaft.
You can read the number by removing the oil pan, or you can just check the stroke through the spark plug hole with a drinking straw.
*If* it was produced in 1973 it *could* be a 429.
The number would start with 4U (4U, 4UA, 4UAB)
If it is a 460 the number will be 2Y (2Y, 2YA, 2YAB, 2YABC)
I am not sure what diameter brake booster might fit your friends convertible.
It will have to clear the steering shaft and any other obstructions.
Later model large cars used a Hydroboost style system where the Saginaw power steering pump provided brake assist.
This negates the vacuum diaphragm.
Maybe he could adapt something from the Lincoln Mark V series.
