My 69 240 I6 has started whistling after I get up past 50mph.
If im speeding up it goes away, but after I let off just a little I get a nice loud whistle again. When I shut the truck off it goes away and does not come back tell I get it back up to speed. any thoughts?
Sounds like an air leak in the area of the carburetor. It stays whistling until I shut it off and then when I restart it, it is quiet until I get to higher speeds.
Sounds like a vacuum leak as HIO said. But a whistle from a vacuum leaks is pretty weird. Spray some carb cleaner around the base and vacuum lines of your carb and note of any idle changes and for the whistling to stop.
Assuming it is a vacuum leak it seems to be from the heat of the engine causing expansion of some sort
What tune is it whistling? Sorry, I got carried away. IF it's not around the carb (Spacer gasket?) AND the vacuum lines and caps are good, then check the belts and the pulleys. Check the water pump for a leak around the shaft (maybe the bearing is going bad?). I like the whistling tune in the latest Maytag commercial, now I can't get it out of my head.

+1
I had this once and it turned out to be one bolt holding the carb down had loosened enough to allow it to suck air in at that corner and cause a whistle.
