Coolant leak

Gentleman,

I must say I have never seen this, but I have seen to have sprung a leak while the truck was just sitting in the driveway, lol.

The leak is coming from a hose and I will try my best to explain where it is without having pics of it. There is a hose coming out of the bottom of the Degas container. That hose goes to a contraption that looks like a "splitter". On the other side of that splitter there is a larger hose that goes into the engine right behind a large pulley. That particular hose seems to have a mesh thing on it...maybe to protect from the heat? THIS is the hose that is dripping, and it is a FAST drip. Fast enough to the point that I would rather not even drive it. I am wondering is there a particular name for this hose? How hard is it to replace...looking at it I may be able to get it out without removing anything else, but I am not sure. Any tips on replacing this hose I would love to hear, as I need to do it ASAP....Thanks!

Cheers,

It's considered a heater hose. Napa part # 9588. Not terrible to replace. Pull the degas bottle and the I/C tube outta the way. You'll see it. You will need a good tool to get the clamp behind the water pump pulley.

See if you can confirm if the leak is from the hose or at the connection itself. If it's from the connection then readjusting the snap clamp might help, or replace it completely.

Are you sure it's the hose? The hose attachment port on the Degas Bottle is a prime place for failure

And that hose you describe would be the heater hose. The leak you describe is also very common and caused by vibration and rubbing through on the bottom rearmost corner of the FICM. For this reason, on every truck that I have apart, I will wrap some appropriately sized convolute around that section just to protect it from the exact failure you describe. To replace it is a bit of a pain, due to how it wraps around the rear of the engine and secured to the firewall by two nuts, before it enters the heater core on the other side.

I think he is talking about the hose that is in the picture that leaves the y connection, and goes to the motor.

Okay, I stand corrected. If this is the hose he is referring to, then I'll say yes it is a lot easier to replace than the heater hose.

YES, that is the part I am talking about...not the one that goes around the back to the heater core. One that leaves the Y-connect and goes to the motor...

I will check that in the AM. I do not believe it was the connection itself, but I cannot say for sure.

Yes, that is the one. Does that come as one piece? And the part number? A person on another forum had the plastic y piece crack.

If I am looking at this correctly...thats the hose that goes to the top of the motor. Then the hose that goes to the bottom of the Degas. Just reconnect the heater core hose?

Is that the big black cylindrical pipe? How do you move that? I have never taken it off.

Any suggestions on the tool?
