OBD1 code reader for 1995 Ford Explorer

I just purchased an INNOVA 3145 OBD I code reader that is specific for "Ford Lincoln Mercury Domestic vehicles 1981 to 1995". Much to my annoyance, however, the manual lists 1995 4.0L V6, 8th VIN digit 'X' Explorer, Ranger, Windstar as excluded. That is, this code reader will not read the 1995 Explorer. I called the INNOVA manufacturer and confirmed this. I found the thread "What code reader for a 1995?" on this site and from 2005, and an Autoxray EZ-Scan3000 was suggested. I've surfed the web for this code reader and it now appears unavailable. Does anyone have a reference for a code reader that will read codes for a 1995 Ford Explorer? Does it matter if it's 4x4 or not? Does it matter if it's an Eddie Bauer edition? Thanks for any help.

You have the correct code reader but the wrong information. Even the darn manufacture of the test box , really! Idiots! Here is what you need . First open the hood. Second look down on the drivers side near where the relay box is there should be an EEC test port it's black plastic rectangle with the words EEC test port. It should be toward the front of the truck. With the engine off and no power to key, plug in the INNOVA 3145 ( it needs a 9 volt battery and will not work without one) plug in both test leads in the test port( one kind off looks like a triangle with some prongs and the single connector and start test according to instructions. Yes it will require two people unless you got the long cord than you can do the test inside the truck. I have the same truck and have the same code reader and yes it will work. I do not know why the manufacture's help desk can not figure this out.
Also the test plug that is under the steering wheel is for the other computers that have nothing to do with the power train. Think OBD II . Yes you can test the ABS with the correct adapter.

Thank you, D.R. I also saw your reply on the Explorer forum and will stick to that forum for further questions/comments. For the sake of any others searching for a code reader for a 1995 Explorer (4.0L, V6), the INNOVA 3145 (OBD1 reader) will work on a 1995 Explorer for both KOEO and KOER testing. The connector on this vehicle is EEC IV. I'd recommend the extension cable that you can get separately.

I can confirm. This code reader will work for the 95 Ford Explorer. I too suggest the extension.
