Any consensus on whether the oil temp is usually higher than the coolant temp or vice versa? I know the spreads should stay around 12 degrees or so, but after a recent radiator change the oil temps seemed higher - I think it's just a fact that the coolant temps might have dropped a little

Towing 15,000 lbs at 65 mph in 90 ambient temp coolant temp at 208, oil temp at 221. Night before 206 coolant 214 oil temp.

oil will always be higher than water if alls even close to being right, you never did say what kinda radiator you went with? Towing day or night does changes things tempwise sometimes.

Oil will always be higher and after working the truck.
The test is level ground, at full temp for 15 minutes at near 2000rpm or around 65mph. With no load in the bed or towing.... temp should not be more than 15° apart.

If its more, than start saving, your going to need a cooler. Towing is a different story. I'd expect higher numbers and greater separation.

Some magic numbers:
217° ECT should be full on fan.
A/C should also kick the fan as well, watch FSS on your live gauges.
235° EOT is the number to watch if you have an EGR still functional. Puts very hot coolant into the EGR cooler.
253° EOT will defuel the truck.... you get the wrench, no power as its shutting down to save the motor. If that number continues to climb, you risk melting plastic parts/pieces, like the oil sandpipe in the oil filter area.

Curious where this came from. First time I've seen it mentioned here, but I haven't read every last thread and Sticky.

I see that on a regular basis pulling hills once my ECT starts getting into the 215-220 range and the fan starts coming on.

BPD EGR Cooler so I'm not as worried about it.

Not sure putting hot coolant into the egr really makes any difference when the exhaust gases entering the egr are 1,100-1,300 degrees.
It really makes the difference when the oil cooler plugs and inhibits the flow of coolant. That's when you'll split the egr and let coolant enter the air intake. Not good.

Also, my turbo psi won't exceed 26 lbs regardless of how much I'm pulling. If all is operating properly, your PCM/ECM won't allow it.
