I just got back from VT vacation today but I had a question. The temperature of my oil hit 225 according to the edge a few times. It was about 90 degrees outside and I was towing my 26 foot travel trailer and was going up hill on RT 89 in VT. At what temperature should I start to get concered about it? I just changed my oil to shell rotella 5-40 synthetic before I left.
What was your coolant temperature? The only reason I ask is if your coolant was down below 200F your oil cooler might be clogged. If the coolant was up around 215-220 you should be fine.
Your temps should be OK. I have seen ECT 218* EOT 228* pulling my 14k 5er up a 6-7% grade over 6 miles in 90* temps and my fan comes on around 214*.
