I used the Lokar TV cable kit on mine. I have had it for 10 years and it still works great. I like it. I think it is easier to adjust than the stock TV rod was.

It is EXTREMELY important to have the TV cable adjusted correctly! If you don't, you can destroy the AOD very quickly.

A quick question: what obvious differences (if any) are there between the TV and KickDown rods themselves?

Has to do with the adjustability part. The holleys and other aftermarket carbs wont work with the kick rod because the linkages dont have the proper ratio needed

An AOD TV rod looks exactly like a C4/C6 kickdown rod on the carburetor end. On AOD-specific carburetors, the TV linkage will have a small adjusting screw where the TV rod connects for fine tuning of pressure/shift points. (Aftermarket carburetors don't have this.)

On the transmission end, the TV rod is threaded with an adjustable block for the coarse pressure adjustment.

Mine is smooth with a flat side for a set screw in the adj block at the tranny.

Reason why I ask about any differences is during rough adjustments (as per Ford manual), I always seem to have the block at the upper end of the travel area. I can get the pressures right at the carb adj but it always struck me as odd that I would run out of rod at the tranny end with the course adj.

Truck originally had the wrong carb on it and shifted from 1st to 3rd or maybe OD when I got it! I was able to bring it to spec with the wrong carb and had nice smooth shifts and on time but wanted the right carb for obvious reasons.

Since putting the AOD carb on a few years back, the course adj never felt right as far as position on the rod. Hence, my concerns!
