I am in the process of changing my serpentine belt on my W99and thought I would replace the Tensioner as well. My question is that there is a spacer bar on the new Tensioner and there wasn't one on the old Tensioner. Can someone tell me what this is?
You aren't supposed to remove it. You leave it exactly as it is, install the tensioner and the belt. Then put your 1/2" drive breaker bar or ratchet in the hole, push it toward the passenger side fender and the lock will release. If you need to remove the belt in the future, it's still there to lock the tensioner again.
