You're going to like this: I found some mechanical hackery! Looks like I'm going to have to buy a metal CAC tube!

No doubt. I think if McGuyver saw that, he would definitely think this was one situation where he was not going to get out of trouble

We got the 7018 passes burned in and started on the fish plates. One down, 3 more to go. I also ordered my metal for boxing the frame today.

Looking good, I love following this project. Maybe I can check it out in person when it's all done! Great work!

I got the cab home and my son and I performed an inventory of the interior pieces. Looks like I've only got one tan door panel. The rest are grey. I'll need to source tan panels. I still need a tan headliner for a sunroof and another tan carpet.

I fixed some of the redneck hackery today. I installed stainless intercooler pipes on the hiphopopotamus:

No more boost leak. It cut down on the smoke dramatically. I will still need to pull the heads when I yank the engine, to fix the low compression on #8, I don't know if I'll get any truck project time this weekend, my wife has a triathlon on Saturday and she wants me to "support" her.

Great work! If you were closer, I have a set of Lariat Crew Cab door panels...
When you pull the heads are you going to have them o-ringed and checked for flatness?

While I worked on the F550 at my place tonight, my brother worked on welding fish plates at my friend's shop.

(The frame isn't bent all over the place like this picture seems to depict. It's an artifact from the photo somehow.)

I'm mostly healed up, I have a kinder, gentler 02 F350, and I'm itching for a new project. So far I have a 6-door cab built from the front of an 06 lariat and the back of an 02 xlt. I traded some guns for this and it's pretty good, not perfect. The door gaps are spot on, but the welds aren't as pretty as I'd like:

I have the frame from an 09 crew cab short bed, and another frame from a 2000 crew cab short bed:

Finally I found the drivetrain donor: The Hiphopopotamus, a 2006 F550 with a 6.0 PSD:

This is going to be a ton of work, but also a ton of fun!
Holy Glad your okay!

I got the frame reinforcements from the machine shop today:

I had them built from 1/4" plate that was bent on a brake to fit snugly inside the original frame rails, but instead of nesting them inside the frame like I've seen done on other trucks like this, we reversed them to form a box. This will cause me a lot more work when it comes time to mount the brake lines, fuel lines and exhaust, but the added strength will be worth it.

We also drove the 550 over to my friend's shop to begin the teardown and part out.
