Stopped by to see my baby today. Have 2 issues-EGR valve was not opening all the way so he replaced that and the turbo was sticking. He was in the middle of helping another customer so I didn't get to talk in depth with him, but it was like at 85% (or something) at idle. He told me yesterday when he came back from a test drive that the turbo didn't sound right. I'll know more tomorrow.

Going to bring this back alive. I got the truck back with the new EGR valve and while the mechanic was preparing to pull my turbo out, he notice the 2 wire plug for the actuator was fried. Wire were exposed and had touch cause the insulation to burn off. He got a new plug and fixed that which in turn fixed my turbo issue! I pulled my camper this week on vacation and it did much much better. It totally fixed my bucking/surging issue I was seeing. So I'm pleased on that front, but I'm still getting a cold start miss and even a miss while running well after it's warm and also a fair amount of black smoke at take off. Fuel mileage doesn't seem to be effected in a negative way though. I still do not have an injector code, but I do have P0341 and P2290 now. I've started to run some DieselKleen in it for about 3 tanks now.

I got around to finally using my ODBII adapter last night in the driveway. Here are my numbers idling. I'll do a cold start this morning with it running to see what the numbers look like. Do these look right? Any advice on what to look at next?

Those numbers look good but how high does your ECT usually get? At 168 either it wasn't fully warmed up or the thermostat is bad.

I do not know. I will find out the more I use this. I know the fan kicks on a bunch while I'm towing. I haven't tried the cold start yet, but I will post those numbers when I do.

Took the truck for a drive just so I could monitor the temps for some guys that were asking about my ECT. Drove about 5 miles to get fuel, idled for a bit at the gas station and files miles back home. It wasn't till I was nearly home that it got to the high temp you see on here. And it was nearly a 100* outside. Kind of odd. But my IPR looks good at full temp I think. I'm still learning what the other stuff is, so if you see something odd please bring it up! EDIT First screen shot is key turned on, not running and the second is at fully warmed up after the drive.

One question, will faulty glow plugs make this truck run rough?

Glow plug issues won't affect how it runs after it warms up.

206 coolant temp is pretty high unless your towing. Consider changing TStat if you don't know the history. If you watch torque closely, you can actually tell when the TStat opens. Has nothing to do with black smoke.

What model? I recall you have about 160k miles on the clock.

Check MAP tube, sensor and nipple, and EBP tube and sensor. These all impact how the turbo works. Get base line on both those sensors KOEO and after cold soak. They should bet close.

Pay attention to VGT and boost. Surly the mechanic confirmed the turbo and These sensors were working correctly.

Thanks Bryan. It's an 05, with 160k. I'm picking up the Oasis report tomorrow, maybe that will shed some light on the history for me (us). MAP and all the things you listed in that section. That's mostly new to me. I'm sorry....I'm learning! I'm 99% sure the mechanic did not check those things. He replaced the wiring and drove it then I showed up. Is there any other data that would help you all that I can provide?

That's pretty high coolant temp for running unloaded but not alarming. What is the ambient temp? AC running? Stop and go?

Towing is the fan only coming on when climbing hills or when pulling flat ground as well?

I would start with a thermostat as it's cheap (get OEM or Mishimoto 200F), but my guess would be your radiator is probably plugged up, especially since you say the fan is coming on a lot.

My truck only kicks the fan on high speed when I'm pulling a long steep hill in the summer with the AC blasting. With my old plugged radiator the fan would kick in pulling away from a stop light sometimes towing. I'm only pulling 8k so if you are way over that your experience might be different.

Nice to hear some good news for one lol

Temp yesterday was about 100* and I drove about 12 miles in total. I didn't get that warm till I was nearly home. It was all flat ground driving, mostly 55mph on a 2 lane road. AC was running, set on auto at 71*

Fan likes to come on while pulling a grade or hill and if I get into it to catch up speed from being in traffic....something like that. My camper is around 7000#ish, so not overly big.
