Pikes Peak
Want to tow or transport truck back home. For repairs.
Any recommended company for this?
Notes 232,000 miles on the truck. Origional engine.
Never been opened up.
Just drove from Las Vegas Nv. To Colorado Springs Colorado (830 miles) avg 16 mpg with 4/10 gearing. Driving 65 to 70 mph. Tarp over the bed.
Have not posted any pics yet and not sure if I am able to yet.
Noise there all the time and louder as I speed up the engine.
Engine not running any ruffer than before. last compression check 2 summers ago, #'s 3&4 were low at 325. The rest were 425. I had my injection pump rebuilt at that time and I installed a new set of Stanadyne Injectors also.
Before leaving on this trip. I put a new water pump, hoses, coolant and distilled water, with 2 bottles of Diesel coolant additive from one of my local Ford dealers.
On the hill I checked the radiator, (an inch low from cap) and over flow bottle. The bottle did not have any just green coolant left in it but had a small amount of a black liquid. (Maybe quater cup) Coolant in radiator was a brownish green color and did not look like what was in the overflow bottle.
Have to get ready for church now.
New sound is not the same sound. Sound is originating from passenger side towards front of the engine. About Cyclinder # 3 location.
From inside the cab
Sounds like a lifter is not working properly.

If the links do not work for you please let me know.
Thanks for any more ideas about the clicking noise.
Oh; check the exhaust. Is there any pulsing at idle if you put a piece of paper in the exhaust stream?
If you have a good set of glow plugs, you can also let it idle, and check resistance from each glow plug(unplugged from the harness) to ground; this will effectively tell you the cylinder balance - a lower resistance glow plug means a hotter cylinder, a higher resistance ones means a cooler cylinder.
Look for anything far different from the rest.
Will do the glow plug test first before pulling the Valve covers.
I like this test. This would be a great addition to put in the glow plug sticky.
Will not be able to work on the truck for another week or so. But have finally got my back up transportation up and running. No more rentals hopefully.
Want to set up a large swamp cooler to blow around in the garage and under the hood while working on the truck. Have a cover for shade in the drive way but still very warm outside this time of year.
Have to work in driveway. Truck is too long for the garage. Even with front bumper on back wall, rear bumper is still outside the role up door.
Pictures ok?
And Thanks for your time and advise.

I've fixed sticky lifters before .. drain a few quarts of oil and top it off with a brew of marvel mistery oil , atf , and straight diesel fuel .. the diesel thins it so the mmo and atf can penetrate the oil passages in the lifters ..
Warm it up and to and take it on the freeway and run it a good rip at high rpms to free em'
Change oil once they operate normally and quiet again ..
I do it whenever i hear one getting stiff or sticky .. i only have had to do it once in my truck .. it was just starting and cleaned em' all right up ..
ol timers used to drain oil at oil changes fill with diesel .. run a minute. . Drain and add fresh oil .. that'll clean em' out too .
