Hello, I am building a 1931 ford truck and using a 1972 302 I have a a4od not sure what year. It all came with the truck when i bought it. the transmission is bolted to the motor right the flex plate is not on the motor. My question is do i need a certain year flex plate and what year starter will work. If you need more information I will give what ever you need. I am excited to be on this forum and am really grateful for any help that you all will give me. Thank you Sonny.
I don't know about the flex plate, but I do know there is no such thing as an A4OD. If it's bolted to a 302 it is probably an AOD, but there are other transmissions that will bolt to a 302, also. An E4OD will bolt up, so will a C6 or a C4, and probably several others, too.
Note the AOD requires a Throttle Valve (TV) cable or link and is very picky about adjustments. Transmission failure is guaranteed without proper adjustment.
Flex plate should be 28 oz. imbalance 164 tooth, if I read this here correctly:
Yes It is a AOD and i have already looked up the cable. My dad had a transmission shop a long time ago, about 25 years ago. I have built some transmissions a long time ago. Just don't remember munch about this one AOD. We raced dirt late model fords 351 w with Cleveland heads. years ago just rusty on knowing what will work. Thank you very much for you help.
