Ok so out of nowhere my truck started making this clunk! Clunk! It gets faster as I speed up. 🤔 Checked control arms, good. Checked ball joints, ok. Removed left cv axle, ok. Rotated the part that the cv connects to. Noticed it made a sound the same sound just not as deep than when driving. What is it? 😨
I assume your talking about the front differential and not the transmission. The transmission has nothing to do with turning the axle half shafts when setting in the driveway. It could be the differential, it could be the 4 x 4 engagement fork / shaft.. Put the truck in 4 x 4 and drive in a straight line. Does it still do it ? When you turn corners does it get worse or better ? I assume the clunk is once per revolution of the axle shaft ?
I've been off the grid couldn't reply.
So i jumped the gun lifted the truck and rotated the drive axle and heard grinding noises both cvs are out (I tought the left cv was bad so took it out, accidentally rotated drive axle and, OH CRAP! NOISE IS STILL THERE. Plannig on taking it out this weekend is that too hard? Or just requires patience?
so you removed the CV half shaft and the noise is still there ? Inside the differential ? CV joints do go bad, but that is not common......Differential rebuild is not for beginners. You have bearing clearances, pre loads, and back last measurements to get right.
