code 2286

You guys helped me in this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...unny-idle.html and I appreciate it.
My truck has never felt like it has run right since I replaced the leaky ICP. The replacement was not a Ford or International product so I am afraid that it was a mistake. I replaced the plug also. I'm sure I got the wiring correct. I've been several hundred miles since.
I got on it today to get on the interstate and threw a code 2286. I cleared it and drove for a while to see if it would come back. It does fine unless I get on it, then it will throw the code again. I did it twice in a row so I figure I have bought a cheap ICP? My scan gauge is not good enough to get all the on the on the fly info you need. Anyhow, with the lack of info I have given, would you condemn the cheap ICP or do you think I have other issues?
What would be a good scanner to buy that wont break the bank as I am going to pay someone to scan it and replace the ICP if that is it.

thanks again

Download either Torque app or Forscan app & purchase an Elm327 OBDII Bluetooth (or WiFi) adapter from Amazon.
Those apps will let you monitor practically every pid you'd want to.

You mentioned you have scan gauge. That can monitor everything too. But you have to program in Xgauge codes first.
Did you try running it with the ICP unplugged to see if there is any difference?

no, I didn't try to unplug it. It was 100 here today and I put off messing with it =[. I could clear the code and would run just fine unless I really got on it.

As mentioned above, unplug it. Will set a code, won't hurt anything to run that way, see what happens.

It will bring the mileage down a little.
I did the same thing, worked for about 3 weeks, I now have an OEM ICP.

I was an idiot for buying the thing off of Amazon without more research. I read where I needed OEM AFTER I spent all that time installing it.

I know you guys hate it when an OP doesn't post a solution so here it is. I was too quick to condemn the ICP. Apparently, when I put the Archoil in, I didn't drain enough oil out and over filled it. I dropped about 17oz of oil out, less than half the hash marks, and it has run like a champ since. No codes.

Truck will easily hold 16 quarts of oil, actually more. I'm glad it's running good.

More info, I didn't do the VGT relearn right or it didn't take the first time. Did it again last night and what a difference! It ran ok before but is really running well now.

I really do appreciate all your responses. You've been a great help and resource.
