03 7.3L Problems, Bad Fuel?

Anybody have some insite on this issue before she goes to Ford tomorrow?

Drove 600 mile round trip this weekend for a race (that rained out) on the way home we stopped to fill up the other trucks so I thought I might as well. I had over 1/4 tank and picked up some Speedway fuel. a few miles later the check engine light came on (not the water in fuel light) and she idled fine but would not accelerate when I pushed the petal. Asolutely no responce. This vehicle has almost 6000 miles on it and ran perfect till that. Then it let me go again and I got back on the highway thinking it was a fluke. Everything is fine until now when I stop and the RPMS drop she does it and will only idle again, no responce from the petal. I know very little about this vehicle other than it takes deisel and I put deisel in!

Think I got some bad fuel? Is there maybe a restriction in the fuel filter? I am dropping it off at ford in the am cause I can't read the codes here. But maybe this is something simple that I can take care of tonight? Any insite?

Maybe your fuel filter is plugged?

Do you have a spare that you can drop in?

I pulled it out and looked at it and it looks brand new. Outside mesh is still white and it doesn't look like anything is in there. When they are old and pluged do they still look new and clean. Keep in mind this is my first diesel and I know very little about them.

Maybe I will run to the store and pick one up and try it just for kicks and grinns.

I want to clairify something. You said that when it acts up, you get no throttle response when the accelerator is pushed down. It just idles then? If this is the case then your fuel filter is not the problem. Your engine is a "drive by wire" engine, meaning there is no mechanical link between the accelerator pedal and the engine. It uses an electrical signal to tell the CPU what position the accelerator is in. Possible bad idle validation switch, or the CPU is not responding to the throttle input.

I understand that. That is why there are so many things confusing me I thought maybe there was some sort of fuel sensor that is telling the engine no, but maybe it is an idle issue. It is going in in the AM. I will post what ford says. Thanks!

It sounds like it could be the TPS, or throttle position sensor. It sounds like a strange coincidence that it would happen so shortly after buying fuel, though. There's be no connection between the two. Let us know what the dealership says.

Well it must have had something to do with the TPS. There was a recal on the pedals for the adjusting pedals (why you need those in a truck), they performed the recal and it is running great.
