...yup. Sometimes CL reminds me of a final frontier, for the guy that sells gold watches out of his trench coat... But all the honest people are jammed in there too. And unfortunately, its the most practical way to sell small stuff these days.
I sell on capitalist , and I also buy from there also.
I will answer the same questions repeatedly, because people don't read the ad , this at time drives me crazy.
I get a pretty good sense of the kind of person the seller is , by meeting them in person, and will in many cases walk away, if they are unwilling to prove what they are saying.
In the case like yours, I would make them go with me to a tire store , break one if the wheels down, no sensor , they pay me , sensor I will pay .
Wife seen a car she wanted to look at on CL, 2 hrs away, she calls guy and he says I'll meet you at the Pizza Hut by the off ramp. We were there and I was around the corner stretching legs, he pulled up and when I walked up to our car he took off. That kind of worried me that she might have been there alone. She doesn't go look at anything on CL or private party again. Not saying this is exclusive to CL but it was a lesson learned.

I always try to bring 'muscle' or 'spare eyes' to all CL deals. I just wish I had xray vision this last time.
I would like to add that the buyers are as bad as the sellers. Im glad I don't have to work with the public or consumers as my regular job. I get frustrated trying to get cents on the dollar giving away stuff for lowball prices and people are still giving me the third degree being rude getting all suspicious like I'm a criminal and don't have a source of income so I have to rip people off.

Most police stations welcome the public into their lobbies for cl transactions.

I agree. Way too many tire kickers on CL. I get to a certain point and tell them the bottom line price. Don't like it? No problem. Get out of my driveway. Don't call again, don't come back.
I put up with idiots in a 26 year career as a state correction officer. I do not have to do it in retirement.
I tried to buy a 1969 F100 once with the original motor..... a 352....that obviously was not a 352 because they never a 352 in trucks. Most Ford FE blocks were stamped 352, including 360's and 390's that did get put into trucks.
