Yep, it's the same casting. Both transmissions have the same bosses, they're just drilled out for the application.
I'd have no problems with doing it if I had to, and I don't do hack repairs.

Anyway you look at it, it's still a hack ... Though an acceptable one as long as the bell housing remains in solid contact with the adapter plate all the way around.

Apparently it does!

EDIT:
Thank you for the link ... However, to me it is useless, the images are locked off site!

I guess its a linguistical then; to me a hack is a sloppily, improperly done modification. Properly done I do not see a modification as a hack, but that's my own interpretation anyway.

You're right about the pictures, I don't see them anymore either since I gave up on OB and am no longer a member. I may have saved them though so if I can find them I'll upload to a picture hosting site for us here.

Please Please host them here on FTE so they don't just disappear and become useless again!

Yes, thanks!

Should also be noted the gearing is different in the 460 ZF. I can't recall offhand what the differences are other than the gasser has a lower (more desirable) reverse. But it's been discussed all over this forum so the other differences shouldn't be hard to look up.

The ZF link is broke, I have the pdf's so here they are ... I've also attached all the ZF pdf's I have from the ZF site.

Close Ratio (Diesel)
  • 1 = 4.14
  • 2 = 2.37
  • 3 = 1.42
  • 4 = 1.0
  • 5 = 0.77
  • R = 3.79

Wide Ratio (Gasoline / Diesel)
  • 1 = 5.72
  • 2 = 2.94
  • 3 = 1.61
  • 4 = 1.0
  • 5 = 0.76
  • R = 5.24
