Ok so I have an 88 f250 with the 460 and the 5 speed and an 84 f250 6.9 idi with the c6 3 speed. I want to do a swap and put the 6.9 into the 88 and just the motor nothing else, what is all involved and what do I have to move from the 86 full doner truck to the 88? I know that I must swap all fuel lines and such. But what about the 5 speed bolting up, can I just eliminate the torque converter since the 5 speed is standard, and what about the gauge clusters, how do I install a tranny temp gauge, I have aftermarket one. And anything else I'm forgetting. I've never swapped b4 but I have a lot of help just wanna know everything that it entails b4 I begin. Thanks so much!!!!
Basically I just want to pull the whole motor and drop it in place of the 460. With all fluids, have strong enough hoist to do so. What all goes into it?
What will I have to do it make them marry? Can everything else I need be taken off of the 84 and put on the 88 to do the swap? Will I need to buy any other parts?

No

Yes
It all depends on how much hacking you want to do, the core supports are different, the pedal assemblies are different, radiators are different just to name a few.
Pretty much anything is doable if you want to do it bad enough!
I'm willing to bet you can find a used 1988 F250 with a manual tranny and IDI already installed for cheaper than it will take to cobble up a swap. Check craigslist. They are everywhere. Then keep the 84 6.9 as a spare engine if the other IDI blows up on you.
Here is one without any rust from the desert, and you even have the spare engine to put in it while you diagnose what is wrong with that bad cylinder. he'll even throw in a turbo kit. And it has 4wd. https://bakersfield.craigslist.org/cto/5622250747.html
If I wasn't unemployed I would and the wife would kill me if I did that she already wants me to get rid of one of them so I'm doing the swap and then parting out what I don't use and keeping the 460 to make a performance motor.

Agreed!
87-91 would get the job done for swapping if that's your real goal ...
Then it's easy. Sell both trucks. Buy a clean IDI F250 4x4 with a stick. Buy a 460 off of Craigslist for cheap. Then rebuild the 460 after you get reemployed.

My wife gave up trying many years ago, now I just get the "Really" look!

That's one I'd look into real deep before buying near that price, if my suspicions are correct not even half that!

Though that ATS sure spices up the deal!

true. The 4x and the turbo does spice it up, but I'd probably only spend $2k for that truck. maybe the guy would be able to negotiate a little more than the CL post leads on. The only thing going for it is the clean desert body. You can find some pretty pristine 80's parts out here in California and Arizona. My van is from here, and my friend from Wisconsin was admiring my clean frame and body panels and said my van "should be in a museum."
The 460 zf5 can be drilled to work with a Diesel engine. They use the same casting with some of the holes in different spots.
Sorry Bashby, that is not exactly true, the castings are not the same, yes it can be hacked to fit except for the two top bolts.
There is also the fact that it will not seal leaving a gap at the top.
Yes, it's been done, it's a hack at best!
EDIT:
It appears I may be wrong about the casting and that it will not leave a gap at the top! Type4 has done it, I can't imagine him doing such a hack if the top was left open!
If it's a just a matter of elongating the two top holes ... Then I guess it is not such a bad hack, one I'd do in a pinch ...
