IM PRETTY SURE IVE READ ALL THE POST ON HERE CONCERNING 4X4 AND STILL HAVENT FOUND A SOLUTION. MY TRUCK HAS ESOF SWITCH ON THE DASH BUT SHE WAS REFITTED WITH MANUAL WARN HUBS BY THE PRIEVIOUS OWNER. THE VAC LINES ARE PLUGGED EXCEPT FOR THE BLEND DOOR LINE.I CAN TURN THE SWITCH ON THE DASH ,NO CLICK.CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE BEST ROUTE TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS? I HAVE POWER AT THE SWITCH BUT NOT AT THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFT MOTOR.(ON THE REAR OF THE CASE) ALSO NO POWER TO THE PLUG ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CASE.
GET THIS WHILE IM UNDER THE TRUCK WITH MT TEST LIGHT LOOKING FOR FIRE THE 4X4 LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASH BUT I AINT HEARD NO CLICK YET.

There are two relays under the hood that control the ESOF motor on the transfer case.
I'm not at my desk right now so I can't explain further, but see if those relays are making any noise, or getting power. The GEM controls these relays, and they will only be energized for a certain period of time, then the GEM stops trying.
One relay turns the motor one way (to go into 4x4HI and then into 4x4LOW) and the other relay turns the motor the other way (to come out of 4x4LOW into 4x4HI or from 4x4HI into 4x2).
First thing would be to SWAP the two relays. After you swap them, if it goes INTO 4x4, but will not come OUT of 4x4, that's your problem, one of the relays is bad.
I don't know much about these trucks yet as I just bought my 03 F350 4x4 about a week ago, but the PO removed the auto hubs and replaced them with Warn Manuals. I noticed the lines for the hubs were just hanging next to the wheels the other day. My lines are not plugged, I had my son activate the dash switch inside and we heard it click from 2WD to 4HI, but didn't hear a click for 4LO, pushed it back for 2WD and it clicked again, didn't think much of it, I told him I had no plans of using 4LO anyway.
THANKS ALOT GUYS FOR YOUR INFO. I FOUND THE RELAYS AND SWAPPED THE OUT WITH THE OTHER 2 NEXT TO THEM. NO CLICK. BUT FYI I HAD NO HELP AND AS YOU KNOW ITS HARD TO BE IN 2 PLACES AT ONE TIME BUT I DI COME ACROSS ANOTHER HEAD SCRATCHER. THE PO HAD RUN A SEPERATE HOT WIRE TO THE 4X4 SWITCH ON THE DASH. THE ORIGINAL IS CUT AND TIE WRAPPED. I TURNED THE KEY ON AND THE SWITCH TO 4HI AND GOT UNDER THE TRUCK TO CHECK FIRE AT SHIFT MOTOR, NOTHING HOOKED THAT BACK UP AND COME TO DRIVER SIDE OF TCASE AND WITH A TEST LIGHT STARTED PROBING THE PLUG . THE SECOND WIRE I TRIED MADE THE MOTOR SHIFT AND VACUUM SOLINOID STARTED RUNNING. SHORE NUFF BAFFELED NOW PLEASE TURN ME ON TO ANY INFO YOU MAY KNOW OF
