If you gonna pay 60-70 grand on a new truck. Why won't they let you choose the color? May seem like a petty thing to hang you self up on but if I pay that much money I want to love everything about the truck, not just be ok with it.

yep, fleet orders only. You need a fleet code. Now, no one would ever do such a thing, but it'd be possible a misorder happened using a fleet code, then the customer declined to take ti and then the dealership could sell it to a private person. Our other fleet guy ordered 35 yellow Transits, and it should have been 34. So I have a customer who I gave a great deal on a yellow van to. They burn through miles and didn't care what color was. The Island blue would be nice, but it's not a VSO option.

Nope but the "W8829H"-code looks somewhat like it.

Because you can pay an extra few grand and go to a paint shop and get it done. After all, it's just money, and if you can justify a 60k pick up to yourself, a customer $65k one should be easy. Or spend $2500 and get a full custom body wrap

LOL, no it's not that easy! I got mine by ordering through an upfitter (Company that builds tow trucks) They had one other customer who wanted Bold Yellow, and they ordered 3 for stock. There is always someone who wants a bright yellow tow truck. They do this every year or two. They used their fleet number. You guys might want to check with upfitters in your area, they may have others who want the same color.

In today's regulated world a few grand might get part of the truck painted. Due to a break-in I had a rear door, cab pillar and 1 side of box repaired/painted and the cost was over $3500. I would not want to think of the cost of a total paint color change, including door jambs and door edges plus strip down of all attachments and top quality preparation for a color change which would probably not be as durable as the factory finish. It could approach $8-$10K for a proper job. More than just a little vanity money.

That's why I suggested the wrap. A proper paint job would probably be $8k from last time I asked my body shop. If you're spending $65k on a truck with a base price of $35k, or $8k on a diesel motor when you never tow anything or only tow a 10k toy hauler once or twice a year, paying $8k for a paint job for vanity actually makes an equal amount of sense from the right perspective.

I agree, it really isn't an inordinate amount but in spite of my love of dark green trucks I am not that vain. The wrap might be ok but I do like the finish of the modern urethanes. The shine is fantastic and the metallic seems to float in suspended animation. But as a thought the wrap might help protect this shine on an upcoming trip across Canada through BC and Yukon with a destination in Alaska and return through the southern US route. Lots of places for road damage along the way.

I've heard the "roads" up to Alaska can really wreak havoc on a vehicle and it's paint job.

I believe these new trucks are close to a work of art. A little Patina added may be part of the charm.
