If you go to a car wash, usually you activate the switch to fold the mirrors in. But when the truck comes out, some car washer workers will grab the mirrors and fold them out.

On my former 2011 F150 Lariat Stupor Crew, a dumb cluck pulled the mirrors out, the passenger side began acting up...working herky-jerky.

thanks.. no people staffed cw here will touch the dually. so I take it to a local wash that does power wash.. I fold and unfold.. they don't touch them.
I went to my storage unit for the FW, folded to enter the code, in and out, then unfolded on exit.. except the drivers mirror didn't..

I unfolded manually, and that is where it sits..

Mine stopped moving in and out, then they stopped folding, then Ford covered new ones under ext warranty.

Do you fold them in and out frequently like you think it wore out/broke or do you suspect premature defect?

Been folding them a lot lately. Parking lots, going to my storage location. In my driveway. I think they just wore out.

I fold mine all the time and of course extend them. Seem to always work fine.

I think the gears inside are plastic and they strip.

Do they move at all or make any noise when trying to fold them? If they do he might be on to something about the plastic gears stripping. I've had a few car wash dudes push mine manually too, makes me cringe. Was thinking of getting a "do not touch sticker" on them but they probably can't read anyway, lol

They took pictures of mine and submitted to Ford. Any visible damage or marks from hitting them and they won't cover replacement.

Yeah, which really sucks cause they're admitting the part of the truck that sticks out the most can't take any inadvertent bumping etc. when I fold or extend/retract I'm very careful to release the button the instant it gets to the end so as not to keep spinning the gears against each other when it has nowhere to go. Does it help? I have no idea, but it makes me feel better.

You should be able to just tap the button, no timing of release required. At least thats how my 11 1/2 ton and 15 sd work
