I'm looking for a product of this type for my "new" 2006 F150 Supercab, in the ~$300 range. After much reading of reviews and of threads here, I've initially narrowed the field to the Access TonnoSport and the TruXedo TruXport. They appear very similar in price, type, and quality, but I'm leaning to the TruXport because of the longer warranty and because of great reviews of their after-purchase support.
I'm interested to hear if anyone here has negative remarks about either of these, or if anyone has a strong preference for something else in this price/type niche. Thanks!
I run a REAL cover, not cardboard..... yup, it costs more to have metal. Look at the Paragon.
Thanks, but I'm satisfied with good quality vinyl. I bumped my budget 90 bucks when I was able to find an incredible price on a TruXedo LoPro QT.
If I were a craftsman hauling thousands of dollars worth of tools around, I might go for metal. But in my case we're mostly talking golf clubs, groceries, recyclables, and the occasional Home Depot trip.
I just bought a American roll cover from truck covers usa. My father in law bought one for his f350. It seems pretty secure and strong. Its a little pricey but I think its the best fit for me and my 250.
Pace edwards looks like junk IMO. The Retrax looks about the same as the American Roll Cover. Im not sure if mine qualifies as water proof but I know that nothing in my bed has gotten wet from the rain. Over all I'm pretty happy with my cover.
I have had both a Retrax and Roll n Lock. Each have advantages and both are very good retractable covers. I would not hesitate to buy either. The differences to me are in how they operate to its a personal decision but the list below can help you decide on any manufacturers features that are important to you.
The roll n lock retracks on its own and is easy to open. The retrax you have to push and pull. If you have a tall bed its a little work.
The RNL only opens at 1 foot intervals. The Retrax can be secured at any postion.
The RNL is very secure but that requires a track on the tailgate for the locking mechanism. This track can be in the way when the gate is down.
The RNL has a much smaller canister and it can be opened to clean out debris. The Retrax canister is much larger so you loose space below and in length.
You can open the tailgate with the Retrax closed. The RNL you have to crack the cover.
With the new locking tailgates I believe RNL may have changed the locking/tailgate design. This would be a good thing.
Pricey but Pace Edwards and Retrax are the best retractable covers you can get. These tonneaus are waterproof.
I loved my BAK Rollback G2 on my 2015 F150 6.5' bed until I got rid of the truck. Ordered a Pace Edwards Ultragroove Metal for my 2017 SD so that I can carry bikes (and other Yakima/Thule rack-mounted stuff) securely above the bed.
