So one of my bed rails has a pretty substantial rust hole in it. What is the fix on these? Are most people pulling the bed and replacing all of them. Can they even be taken off? I know I've seen previous threads on these but I'm on my phone and can't search.
Pull the bed. Expect to need new bolt as the originals will not come out easy.
Flip it over.
Drill or grind off spot welds to release old rail.
Weld in new rails using appropriate sized rectangular tubing from a metal supplier.
Prime and seal.
Remount bed.
last year I had a body shop take care of mine. He did the following:
remove bed
sandblast underside
replace rails with ones he made himself using a sheet metal press
paint underside of bed with a chassis paint
sandblast/cleanup cab-back frame rails
paint frame rails
reinstall bed with new hardwear
