Hi Guys, I'm converting my truck over to Duraspark 2. 84 F150 with 300 six. Does anyone know if I can use the wiring harness from a 78 F150 with a V8? Local junk yard had one, I got it hoping I could use the connectors if I have to build my own harness. I got the distributor, ICM, coil and bracket, and spark. Plug wires. Can you think of anything else I might need? Also, Rockauto has Motorcraft ICM for $36 bucks plus shipping if anyone is looking. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
I guess I read too much into your junkyard foraging expedition.
Sure you can use a V8 DSII harness.
Some of the senders on a I-6 might need extra wire to reach around back of the engine, but all the components and connectors are the same.
No factory tach. I have a aftermarket one that I haven't wired in yet thou. I had to wire in a key on ignition power source to the positive side of coil to get it to run. Now I'm wondering if I need a ballast resistor. When I search for info I get mixed results. Anyone know? I'm still reading about it.

Check your voltage at the coil positive at Idle and KEY ON not running.

This is likely to give a spurious reading, as once the coil is saturated it is going to pass system voltage.
You really need something to load the circuit in order to see the voltage drop.
The manual says to test for the resistor wire by ohming between coil positive and the run terminal of the DSII module connector.
You can see this path doesn't even require the key in the ignition.
The resistor wire should be in the main harness and meets a splice before the connector.
I just posted a DSII diagram in another thread...
Thanks guys. I was just looking at the diagram in the other thread. Key on is about 12.3 and running looks like 15-18V and erratic. I will test like described above. Lol electricity has never been my my best subject, I think I licked the 9V battery a few to many times as a child!
