ambient sensor

I have a 2004 ford f-250....my overhead temp was reading wrong so i changed the ambient senor and placed it back behind the grill. It is still not reading correctly and the connections are clean with no residue of anything. What else could it be? It reads only the outside temp, compass, miles to empty.

Stole this from another site, is this what you are experiencing?

"The outside air temperature reading can be affected by engine heat when the vehicle is idling or has been off for less than two hours. The compass and outside temperature will limit the increase of the displayed temperature to one degree per minute at very low speeds or immediately after the ignition is turned on. After two minutes at a sustained speed of at least 53 km/h (33 mph), effects of engine heat are minimal and the compass will display the current outside temperature reading. Temperature decreases are always updated immediately.

If the outside air temperature sensor is shorted or open, the display will show 60°C (140°F) or -40°C (-40°F) respectively in place of temperature

Measure the resistance between outside temperature sensor pin 1 and pin 2 (component side) at an ambient temperature of 18°-29.5°C (65°-85°F). Check for intermittent readings resistance should be between 8,000 ohms and 14,000 ohms"

it does jump from lets say 80 to 86 and then drop to 70 or 68 and this is when the truck is idle and sometimes when i'm actually driving on the road.

That is what it said, although if you put a new sensor in I would think it is something else. How far off is the display reading from the actual temp?

If you get a chance, drive it for 20 minutes or so on the highway. My 2015 will read high if it is parked on asphalt for awhile, but drops down within 3 degrees or so of the actual temp if I drive it around. If that doesn't sort it out, you may want to test the sensor as outlined in my first post.

Well i drove this morning and the temp would be at the right temp according to my phone and then it dropped to like 68 which in houston it was about 80-84 degrees. Then arounbd 1130am it was reading 93 then dropped to 83 then back to 93 then dropped to 87 then 86. Don't think it's the sensor itself.
