Tach spikes!
This one has me stumped! I have a Autometer 5" tach w/memory recall and i have noticed since i installed it on my 79(stock ign) that occasionally the tach will jump or spike at idle. I plan on adding a MSD but want to figure out whats causing this first. Any ideas?
I thought of posting this in the electrical forum but thought since it is sorta performance related i would ask here first. Thanks

Tach spikes!
I have the same problem. When I let my neighbor borrow my accel coil one day, when his broke, his did the same thing. Sometimes mine is hardly noticeable and others it is bouncing all over at idle. After about 1500 rpm is is smooth as ever. I have rewired the whole system to try and eliminate the problem (needed it anyway) and it has all come down to the coil. The problem existed with points and pertronix.

I kinda figured it might be comming from the coil but was'nt sure. I'm putting a MSD and Blaster 2 coil on soon so maybe that will stop the spiking. My biggest worry was that it might hurt the tach in some way but i found out last night i should'nt. Thank's
