Thank you for the info but now I am really confused because I know that the truck is not a 79. At least the body isn't. It is either a 62 or 63. If you are correct with the decoding then I'm wondering if it's an early 60's body on 79 frame. How would I find out for sure?
The Chassis VIN is the Go To VIN if you get in trouble. Door tags were often swapped damaged doors. I just sold a truck that I had bought that didn't match. There is no way of telling what occurred in the last 50 years regarding your truck. From the rear cab mount to the front bumper 65 to 79 chassis and cabs are bolt hole exchange, so a 65 cab & front clip can be bolted directly to the 79 chassis.
Post some photos of the truck and we can see what you see.
A '62 or '63 should also have a "Warranty Plate" on the inside of the glove compartment door (below is my '61). So you might want to check both the driver's door, as John suggests, and the glove compartment door for additional ID plates.
the 1979 frame should have twin I-beams and discs brakes. Does you truck have these? It appears to have an anti sway bar too, which indicates newer truck or a upgraded modification
