New plug wire install

Hey guys I was just given a set of high temp plug wires to try and install on my 292. I want it to look nice and clean but I'm not sure how to do that. What is the cleanest way to run the wires so it doesn't look like a tangled mess or the wires were just thrown in there? I want it to look professional.. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: forgot to mention I'm running headers

With headers on the 292, there arent really any good places to have looms to hold them, I ran mine using little plastic spacers and then when the head behind the motor they are pretty much hidden by the firewall.

Imagine there are a number of differing confiqurations; I prefer the horizontal rail type over the standard loom, find they cost more. Looking forward to other member's suggestions??

Tried to dig it up, somewhere over at Y-blocksforever.com forums somebody asked the same question, and Ted Eaton and others had a dozen different pics of plug wire routing on race engines that looked great. You should try to find that. My googlefoo mad skillz aren't what they once were I guess.

This one would look nice, but not probable with a Y-Block... we only have 2 studs that hold the valve covers on in the middle, no bolts around the rim :/

My 65, with the 390, has the 2 hole horizontal wire loom, difficult to determine but as best as I can tell the measurement between the two lower valve cover mounting holes is approx. 8 3/4". Learned from experience, online Ford part supplier's are not equipped to give advise if their website item application description varies from intended use. I would not purchase unless I was certain, perhaps able to determine by comparing FE big block valve cover, or gaskets to that of the 292. Another option, perhaps a member in the y block forum can help; but again, sometimes requires thinking out of the box.

The factory style wire looms should work perfectly. They should be available from any company dealing in vintage Ford parts.

The type that holds 4 wires: FAA-12297-A .. available NOS and from repro parts sellers.

Wonder if anyone has a pic of how the stock holders were mounted... wonder if they will still work with headers as I and the OP have

Ask and ye shall receive.

The FAA-12297-A plastic wire retainers (4 wires - noted in post #9) are not shown in the pic (I have a car pic with them), were introduced in 1952 Lincoln's, the first FoMoCo vehicle to have a Y block V8.

They can be used on anything.

This 302 was a Lincoln derived Y block installed in 1956/63 F700/950's.
