I'm planning to order an F150 Lariat 3.5l ecoboost with max-tow/heavy-duty payload and other specifics. From looking at sites like Truecar it appears to me that I can probably get approx. $7k-$8k discount off MSRP on a 2016, although I could obviously be incorrect in that assumption.
I don't need the truck until Feb/Mar next year, so I'm looking for advice about ordering a 2016 before the model-year changeover, or waiting to order a 2017 with the reported 30 ft./lb. bump in torque. The truck will be used to tow a travel trailer. Also, I don't know what the situation will be regarding rebates/incentives/dealer discounts for the new model year.
I realize that only Ford knows what discounts/incentives will be available for 2017(and when they will be available), but I'm guessing some of you more dedicated truckaholics that watch the truck market, and Ford in particular, know what Ford has offered in prior years with the new-year rollout.
So, some specific questions:
Is the 30 ft./lb. bump in the 2017 worth waiting for, or largely irrelevant?
How long am I likely to have to wait to order a 2017 to get total discounts off MSRP similar to what I can get now on a 2016 order?
If you were me, not needing the truck until Feb/Mar next year, when would you order, and why?
Thanks for any educated guesses or insight you can provide!
True however my towing needs have changed a bit so my 5.0 will do fine till my lease is up in a year but could use the xtra gvcw of the Eco. Don't really want to move back to a 250
I think you won`t have a deal on the 2017 model until next summer. Employee pricing is around june-july, this is what I`m waiting for right now. As soon as it`s available, the dealer will call me and I can order my '16 F150 SCrew longbed 3.5L EB Lariat with Max Tow. I will save about $10k. That`s al ot. However, with that deal I will loose the 0% finance option, but lower price is a much bigger deal.
About the new engine: it looks like that everyone is happy with the current version, it has plenty of power for towing too, so I do not want to wait for the upgraded EB ( and I cannot wait either ).
The 10spd transmission? I`m not sure I need it, because the 6spd that I tried was perfect ( I have limited experience ofc ) and I`m sure the repair on the 10spd will be more epxensive than on a 6spd. I will keep the car for 10+ years, so I have to think of that too.
Something I really hate is the start/stop system, I do not want that in my vehicle. That`s an other thing against the '17 model for me.
If you order a 2016, you will have to do it before the books close. Franz will know when, my guess is early July. 2017s with the new 3.5 EB/10 speed will not have any discounts for quite some time. You would be lucky to get invoice on one within the first few months after they roll out.
Fleet balance out is 01 July 16 for the 2016 models. The power boost wouldn't interest me too much. The True Car pricing is based on current rebates of $2k for Lariat, so the rest you're seeing is dealer discounts (a bit high for Lariat, unless your in one of those states that doesn't advertise destination as part of price... insert my typically rant here. The one thing I believe is coming on the '17 F150 (it was shown on the '17 SD at the ride and drive, and they said it would be coming to the F150, but didn't give date) was that BLIS will no longer be deactivated when in tow mode, but would accommodate trailers up to 33'. With your travel trailer and upsale truck, that would be a better value than the extra power if it pans out as a '17 upgrade.
You should also consider if you want a first-year transmission and first-year engine (at least a first-year revamp). The existing motors and 6-speed are quite mature, and do a great job.
