Installing front coils

Hi guys - worked on my truck today - 1990 F150 2WD with AC- and attempted to install my front coils. I bought MOOG CC824s on a good deal from Amazon and was told they were a good fit. Saw some threads here where they have been used.

I had watched and follwed this UTUBE video
and it was a good enough explanation for me to try this. I also wanted to replace the shocks with KYBs from RockAuto.

But when I too the old coil off and compared with the new one, I found the CC824s were atleast an inch higher. Even with the front swing arm way down, the spring would not go into the shock mount. So I put back the old spring back and the new shock instead.

So my question to you guys is, how can this be done. Do you have to compress it fist or is there some other trick I am missing here?

Thanks

Are you allowing the suspension to hang or do you have it supported? It will fit without a spring compressor.

That is what I thought. The front arm is hanging free when I tried to install the spring. Thanks.

I put the 824's on my 150 and had to stand on the hub and get my wife to center the spring in the upper perch

Maybe rent a spring compressor from O'Reilly or AutoZone? It would take just a couple minutes a side.

The range of motion is now being limited by the radius arm. I fit them in but usually have to pull down on the swing arm (I have a lift) to get it in there. If you are sure you cannot get enough room to make the spring fit, then a compressor would be the way to go.
