Which dealer is doing the work if you don't mind me asking? I see that you are from Ontario.

I'm actually from manitoba, I have two choices , my truck is curently at a private shop. Reading the fine print on new engine warranty it seems the work must be completed by the dealer so I'll have to decide soon

There's a reason so many companies specialize in Cummins swaps. You could probably do it for half of that...

From what I see a reman cummins will cost the same or touch more R and R is similar , few more items with cummins. If it's that close I'll stick with the ford engine ! It provided 350,000 km trouble free, and I'd hate to guess the idle hours spent in the oil patch

Maybe because it a cash cow. Then try to sell the truck after. You will
never see the $ you put into it. Also getting service for it will be a
cash cow for the one that takes it on. That is IF you can find a mechanic
that will touch it at all.

I would be willing to bet that when they have a significant issue then end
up sitting in the back 40 rusting to death or under the blackberry bush.

Reasons that I, and many others others don't understand. The OP already stated he's not crazy about a Cummins engine, and quite frankly neither am I. I'm sure they have their own sets of issues. If we're going to compare apples to apples, I am quite certain he will be dollars ahead swapping out a Ford reman engine into his truck, versus a reman Cummins in and then have to deal with the cost of fabrication to make it work, resulting in an end product serviceable only by the shop that did the swap.

Just for the prices of those engines alone, you could buy yourself a decent newer truck.

Thought about IT , buy a 10 yr old truck with 200000km on it for $20000 and what if Ya get a surprise in few months or even couple yrs? Then I'd have two parked in trees . Short block price is attractive but after further exam my turbo and injectors are tired too. Going to contact dealer in morning have a chat

Most dealers are pretty open to a break on the labour rate as well as the mark up on the price of the parts on a repair like this, if there is any kind of inkling that you are thinking of going ahead with this. From a dealer tech himself, the only factor making this worthwhile on a 13 year old vehicle with that kind of mileage, is the known history of it and the fact it is a manual transmission truck which is very hard to come by these days.

I appreciate that , yup Trans and clutch both good , did brakes year ago , I built the deck and shortened the frame myself , overkill on both. Front fenders been rrplaced . I'll give them a raking over 😏

When I investigated this years ago the only thing I found that was needed was to extend the ICP sensor harness so it would it to the newer engine location. Exhaust back pressure too depending on what you want to flip. The rest of the '03 harness was fine. Now I never did the swap so I can't confirm. Mechanically everything should bolt up.

But I'd be much more comfortable hearing from one of the guys that flip these weekly.
