Wheel question

The OEM rims on my 1997 F350 are looking ratty. The clearcoat is flaking off and the rims are oxxidizing where it's come off.

I'd like to get them stripped and repolished with no clearcoat, don't mind cleaning them and polishing them at all.

I see Detroit Wheel offers a repolishing service. Any good? If not, do I have any other options (other than doing it myself, which sounds like a job from hell)...

Ask your local wheel shop who they use for repairs

Been down that road already. We have a detail shop at the truck dealership where I work but they won't strip them and they hand polish. I guess I could use Aircraft stripper to strip the clearcoat, I guess.

Detroit Wheel isn't that far from me actually and I was thinking a wintertime project. The truck don't get driven in the winter, never has. It sleeps when it snows here. been that way since 1998.

Only gets used in the summer and only for farm stuff.

Don't use the aircraft stripper. It'll eat the aluminum.

Use very fine sandpaper to sand the clear coat and oxidation off. Then use a buffing wheel and polishing compound. It takes a little elbow grease, but they will look like new when done.

The tires will be off the rims... I wonder if outfits like Detroit Wheel media blast them or chemically strip them?

never liked the clear coat anyway. It was orange peeled from the factory, aka: Commercially acceptable...lol

I'm not the only one with scuzzy wheels, my good friend has a Duramax 3500 with scuzzy wheels too. When the wheels get ugly, they detract from the overall appearance of the truck. My 97 is almost mint... with scuzzy wheels.
