01 Crew Cab Question

I am looking at buying another Ford pickup and have ran across this 01 crew cab and was wondering if there is anything out of the ordinary that I should look at in this particular model [any common issues in them that I need to know about?] ? It has 115,000 miles on it , has the 5.4 in it and the body looks great for being up here in the rust belt. I have only seen pics of it up to this point, but tomorrow I hope I will get to test drive it and get a good look at it. I have done a internet search and haven't seen much about this truck, either bad or good.

Crewcab or reg cab extended cab...no matter what you have, or looking at. If it is coming from the rust belt areas. Crawl underneath it and look the frame and the back side of rockers and radiator core supports over carefully.

Other than that see if you can get prior repair history. From that, (if available), you can get a sense of how it was taken care of. If not available, figure on new spark plugs and new fluids, yes all of them.

Maybe a unexpected surprise is that the crew cab generally is rated better by insurance companies. Not saying to expect cheaper insurance, but maybe it can be? (at least compared to the supercab)

other wise it looks pretty sharp

Thanks for the response fellow Iowan [Jackson Co here]. This will be my 5th ford pickup and still own #4 [but she is getting pretty beat up] so I have bought a few rusty ones. hahaha . Anyway, I am glad to hear that there are no real strange issues with this model. I am hoping to get a good deal on it but since this owner has had it most of its life and has always had a shop do the maintenance on it [he just did all the fluids and a tune up] , I am afraid he will be wanting top dollar for this one. Oh well, Time will tell.
Thanks again

If a shop has done all the maintenance, that is good. things to check.
--new antifreeze
--new transmission oil
--new differential oil
--change spark plugs at 100K miles.

--my alternators run about 150 K miles before replace
--these trucks are very reliable

...Looks like a great truck! I LOVE my 01 SuperCrew! I bought it with 85k on it, and I now have 149k on it yeah its got some rust on the rocker panels and on the inside bottom of the doors, but this thing is fantastic! It sits during the week, so on the weekend we use it travel around, our daughter loves to have the back seat to herself.... Only major thing was the intake manifold started leaking. I did that myself about 10k ago. I have thought about getting another truck, but I cant let this one go!

As already stated, check the frame and body panels for rust. Pull the transmission dip stick, if the fluid is a dark red it hasn't been changed, and that shows improper preventive maintenance. Look at the transmission, and differential for leaks.

My 2001 F150 5.4 lost two coils at around 110k, and the fuel pump. I replaced all eight coils. Replacing the fuel pump is a real pain, either tank must come off, or bed. Actually if you have some help, lifting the bed off to replace the pump is the easiest.

All in all I love my 2001 F150 and love the 5.4 engine, but that is just me.
