So, it's been kinda a messed up week for weather and i've had very little time to work on the truck. But i've run into a snag. for the life of me i can't figure out how to remove the balljoints on the front d60 to remove the spindle to pull the axles to remove the U joints and Ball joints to replace em. My manual is pretty much useless as it only covers the Monobeams and IFS types and is **** poor on describing the procedure for the solid front axle.
The hubs tho are in wicked shape except for the one screw to hold the assembly the morons screwed the threads up and used a self tapping screw-.- It's not too bad i can re thread it, just not impressed by the half *** work they did. ( city workers =/ )
If someone could shed some light on the tear down on the Front d60 that would be wonderful. I'm currently looking up videos and such, once i get back to work tomorrow i'll have to see what i can find on Identifix and prodemand.
yup, so once you have the hub torn down and removed there should be 5 nuts you remove that hold on the spindle then its a matter of persuading the spindle off the knuckle if you have a spindle puller great! if not you'll need to use expert application of a bfh DO NOT! hit the bearing surfaces or the threads of the spindle or you will be buying new spindles. if the caliper bracket is mounted like it is on my 44 tou should be able to smack the back side and coax the spindle out. this job takes time to ensure you dont damage anything if you dont have the puller but it is doable just take your time and be patient.

I noticed that there has been some previous minor dings in the spindle surfaces but, nothing insane. all the threads are good. There also was no odd wear on the bearing surfaces nor were the bearings in bad shape. I just got home from work. I clocked out early to take the axle apart at work. Good thing i did cause it did nothing but fight me the entire time....Ujoints wouldn't come out (had to cut the center and break free the C clips.) Spindles were rusted badly to the dust shields and spindle housing ( dust shields didnt make it lol.) Took me almost 3 hours to get it all torn down and all the Balljoints removed ( which as i suspected 1 axle ujoint was toast and the all the BJ's were seized and rusted due to the boots being dry rotted and torn.)
Bit of an Update, Got one side of the frame cleaned and painted. Slowly getting the parts for the front axle that I'm missing to put it back together and get the frame back to rolling. Been side tracked with having to do some much needed G.M and Body work on the truck. Just had a brake line blow last night, fuel lines looking pretty bad, Cab corners are getting pretty bad, the front corners at the cab are rotting out, causing my doors to sag and not open properly. Box floor is getting even worse. So for now the Frame progress is kinda at a standstill as i gotta keep the donor/my daily alive. Just means less body work and **** to do in the future when i got more funds to get the supplies and parts i need to finish the frame=D
Long time without any updates. Been busy with everything else and still accumulating stuff i need for the build. Progress so far, Trucks been off the road for about a month now. Frames all finished up paint wise, back to a rolling frame. Got the front clip all torn apart and pulled the 390, which im gonna be rebuilding at school in the machine shop ( it's still probably not going back in the truck, just wanna freshen it up and save it for another project down the road.)
Still waiting to sell off my older bros fire chicken so i can bring the frame over to the house to begin swapping the cab over and building the new rear cab cross member for the NP205. I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do with the 2wd frame as i can't have all this stuff laying around taking up space as i still need to get a Dodge donor truck for the cummins. All I'm gonna be doing over the rest of this mild winter is whatever body work i can get to on the cab while i hunt down more stuff.
Still unsure of what im gonna do paint job wise. I kinda wanna keep it close to the original two tone or olive drab green. Thinking i may go the off cream white and a Mopar copper colour, i think it was called Mango Tango or something weird like that.
