i hear you man i'm trying to save pennies for my own cummins swap.
just a nugget it the divorced transfer case from the highboy frame is in good shape you can use that which will allow you to use a 2wd dodge as the donor. thats what i'll be doing on mine. the 2wd trucks are usually cheaper by a few thousand dollars sometimes more
Yup, same route I'm going. Looks like the running rate minimum around my area is around the $3000 range for a running 2wd 12 valve with less then 350k km's. Being from the great white north, just trying to find some odd ball stuff for the 73-79's is getting hard and expensive. I got lucky with my truck.
you are lucky my friend i haven't found a 2wd cummins truck in what i consider my area for under $5000 us for months...... maybe i should start checking canada?

Not sure, you gotta take into consideration conversion rate, shipping, the border tax B.S. Unless your willing to not count gas if you drove, it's hard to say. Trying to get aftermarket stuff up here i get kinda screwed on some stuff cost wise. You probably would want to do a bit of research on it, I know a few guys that know some truckers that have brought stuff back when they are coming home empty.
Not a whole lot of progress, cleaning up the axle's is taking a lot more time then i expected.....starting to really wish i had a soda/sandblaster. Doing this with a few different sized wire wheels is just time consuming. The Rear axle is done, it came out better then i expected it too tho which is always a good thing. I may start with the front tomorrow depending on how i feel after work.
Still doing a lot of planning and figure out things for this swap. This is a lot like doing my bike but on a much larger more expensive scale lol. So I'm making sure i do things in an organized planned out order...and cost effective.
I'll be doing the brakes later on, Don't want brand new brakes to get ruined sitting around for ages. I plan to do all new calipers, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, spring kit, etc etc etc closer to when the trucks ready to be put on the road.
That's the ****ty thing about living in Canada.....rust and ****ty winters. The winters have been quiet rough on the box of my truck......its getting bad and faster then i expected.

just making sure, i know some people locally that run sketchy stuff like those drums because "drums don't go bad" and "what do you mean balance of the drum its cast iron how are you supposed to balance cast iron"

I hear ya, the measurements maybe good on em...but yea since i'm putting all this time and effort into this build....i don't plan on cutting corners, especially safety concern areas. I know of some similar individuals that pull **** like that also, i won't have anything to do with em.

i knew a guy that decided he would dress his own flywheel with a flap wheel a grinder and a wood lathe.........

You gotta be kidding? what in the hell goes through some folks heads...... When it comes to stuff that i know i don't have the equipment for i take it to a "professional."
As for the truck, one thing i gotta do which may help out others down the road with this swap is all the measurements of mount locations, frame location and height wise. As i'm thinking i may run into front clip mount issues with it sitting higher then the cab (easy fix) but if i can take the guess work out. I'll save people a lot of hassle of trying to do a swap due to a crusty old shot frame.

nope not kidding, and yeah i can see where keeping accurate measurements and maintaining an in depth build thread would help a lot of folks. possibly even myself i have want of a crew cab long bed and a shortage of money so i will have to wait and the idea of a modern(ish) chassis is appealing so maybe i can build one with a crew cab long box modern chassis like you are doing just a matter of finding bits and pieces..

Ai, i'll try to get the measurements done on my truck and the frame once the axles are back on and ill make up a word document/pics for ya for future reference.
Did get the frame and the front axle pressure washed, should make things go abit quicker for getting them ready for paint this weekend. Forgot to take pics, was quiet impressed with how much grease i was able to clean off with a few cans of Degreaser and the P/W. Once that's all done sadly i'm gonna be sitting for awhile till i get a parts truck and the cummins.
But there are a few things that i need to do on my truck asap body wise, front door /rockers are getting pretty bad, passenger side door when it opens you can see some flexing cause its so rotten. Probably gonna have to get that done the following weekend if i can find the replacement stamped parts through my NAPA.
if you weren't 2/3 a country and a boarder away i could help with the finding of parts (i have sources for all sorts of parts) but theres the small issue of not having a passport and a lot of miles/kms

I'm looking to get my passport soon cause there's a place just over the border near Detroit that gets southern boxes. i have a few people looking into some contacts that bring stuff up here too. My biggest thing is getting a steering column for the 4x4.
Plus i've always wanted to check out some junkyards in the states....i have only been to one and it was very small of just old cars and trucks in my area which is very very rare. I literally was like "Can i have all of it?"
