I noticed what looks like an emmissions charcoal canister on my truck, and also what looks like it could be a pulley for a "not there anymore" smog pump.
Ok, I know from having a 1979, that you cant just cut wires and hoses and plug bolts in holes to delete your emissions equipment. Is there literature, pictures, or threads available showing the emmission systems in a 1972? I did a search and not much came up.

I believe the smog pump and the charcoal canister are 2 different systems. The charcoal canister is to vent gas vapors from the gas tank to the air cleaner. The smog pump is to add air into the exhaust to dilute the emissions.
If you delete the canister you will need a vented gas cap.

Evaporative Emission System (unleaded fuel, NON vented fuel cap) introduced in 1970, was mandatory in sold new in CA 1970/72: F100's, Passenger Cars, Bronco's and Econolines, other states may have mandated it as well.
Ran across a 68 F100 or 200 (don't remember which) in a pick-a-part in NY, with the air tubes on it.
Also have a 67 Galaxie 390 with T/E on it. Came from CA according to the license plate still on it.
Did you delete the emissions on your 79’? I’m working on a 78’ F250 and wondering how to get rid of the evaporation system, I can’t find anything on how to delete it!
