sync help

Hey guys, i just picked up a 2013 F-350 with the base sync and cannot get it to do anything. when I press the phone button nothing happens. I tried to unhook the batteries for a couple minutes but that didnt seem to make a difference. altho the radio did maintain the preset memory, so maybe it wasnt long enough. I called Ford sync help line and they said unhooking the batteries does nothing. any ideas?

Welcome to TE, 1turbo6.

Do you have an owners manual?

I guess so, since it isn't working. (I know, thank you Captain Obvious)

But, pages 421-464 are just for the Sync system, so I wouldn't say it doesn't say much.

There are a lot of moving parts to the system, and way too many variables to comment on, given the symptoms you are seeing (it doesn't work).

I'd start with the troubleshooting charts on page 460 or so, then contact the Ford Sync team at the provided number if you are unable to make it work.

We also have a dedicated forum for "in vehicle systems" like Sync. You might try there. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum275/

You can check the fuse in the passenger footwell also.

Since it is a used truck, I'd start with the section that restores the system to the factory default settings.

Cant reset when I press the Aux button it only goes to sat radio. not sync, so I cant perform the Master reset procedure.

Do you have the USB port and does it work if you use it?

It should have. This is leading me to think that someone did some sort of mod on the truck and then tried to undo it when they sold it. You might need to dive behind the dash to find out. Fastest way to check if you still have your sync module installed is to open the passenger door and pull the side dash panel. Sync module should be behind it.

Hi 1turbo6,

I recommend performing a key cycle since the Phone button is inoperable. To do so: Turn the vehicle off > Remove the key > Open the driver's side door > Lock the door (either from key fob or door lock button) > Close the door > Wait 2 minutes > Start the vehicle. If the key cycle does not fix the Phone button, then you'll need to take the truck to the dealer for a more hands on approach.
