Exclamation Rear Differential. Please help.

Hey guys, so today I just need some advice on how much this will cost and what happened. Alright so about a few weeks ago I started hearing what sounded like it was time for new brake pads. But the other day I turned the corner and my neighbor came up to me and said he heard my truck making a metal on metal type noise. So I said okay fml, took it to a local mechanic. Called me today and said the brakes are fine but it's rear differential, he said they put the truck on the lift and used the stethoscope and heard a metal noise inside the rear differential and said that the fluid in there was very metallic.

I bought this truck about 7 months ago from the dealership. It has a total 90,000 miles on it. Buttttt I have Ford Extra Care coverage, I'm not sure if you guys have ford extra care but I'm not sure if it's covered or not. Anyways I was wondering what's your opinions? What does it look like this could cost me worst comes to worst?

If your Extra care covers it, get it in there. $1200 or more at a shop would be my estimate.

Left column, bottom, "Rear Wheel Drive":

"Drive axle housing....(including all internal parts)...."

Get it in there before you run out of warranty....

By the way, worst case scenario how long would something like this take to get fixed at the dealership? Im dropping it off Monday at 8:00. But what does my time frame look like in which they would have it for

8 AM Monday? Betcha it will be longer than you will like. Plan for a couple days. Multiply by 2, add one more.

So maybe by COB Friday, if you're lucky. /jk

My Explorer was same or next day, can't recall. It was just bearings, and was a common failure.

Alright everyone here is the update. So I dropped off my truck this morning and I got a call around noon from the dealership and they said the pin went "bye bye" the guy said the pin was gone in the differential. Whatever the heck that means, anyway the man said it would cost me $2,000 IF I HAD TO PAY! but I'm covered. He showed me a diagram of Everything they had to buy. And it literally looks like they have to build a new rear differential. And everything surrounding it.

I'm just going to kee everyone updated incase in the future this could help someone out. So you guys will never guess what the hell has been going on.......it is now two weeks. Two weeks my truck is still at the dealership. The guy called me and said at first they ordered the wrong pin and it didn't fit. So I was supposed to pick it up Monday a few days ago and the guy stated that it is making a noise still. Now today Friday I was supposed to pick it up today and the man said. We now have our ford technician manager involved because it still isn't sounding right. Sorry about not giving you guys details but I am beyond furious how long this is taking.

Did they rebuild the rear end with all new parts as you posted above as a possibility ?

All new parts assembled by a factory TECH should not have noise problems... TWICE !

Finally got my truck back. Alright everyone once again I am sorry if I'm bothering you with this thread but I just wanted to complete it in case someone will go through what I went through. After over two weeks of waiting today I got to pick up my truck, from what the dealership kept telling me was they were hearing noises while putting it together after a few tests drives and the list of parts is insane ( I will post pics of parts) but I'm sorry I can't get in depth about what exactly was fixed in the rear diff but here's a pic. Hopefully no one will go through what I just did.
